LET'S TALK ABOUT IT

STIs Are Common. More Common Than You Think. And Most of Them Look Like Nothing.

Here’s what medical science actually says:

The majority of sexually transmitted infections produce zero symptoms. No pain. No discharge. No rash. No sign that anything is wrong. You feel completely fine. You look completely fine. You ARE fine — except for the infection quietly doing its thing.

That’s not a scare tactic. That’s just biology.

Chlamydia — symptomless in over 70% of women. Gonorrhoea — most people carrying it don’t feel a thing. Hepatitis B — can live in your liver for decades before causing damage. HIV — the early stage can feel like nothing more than a mild flu, then disappear entirely while the virus continues to replicate.

The only way to know is to test. That's it. That's the whole point of this page.

1 in 3 Nigerians has been exposed to Hepatitis B. Most don’t know.

Gonorrhoea is the most commonly reported STI in Nigeria. It’s also commonly asymptomatic.

Chlamydia causes infertility and ectopic pregnancy — often in people who never had a single symptom.

Testing isn't about thinking the worst. It's about knowing the truth. Peachy gives you that.

SO, WHAT IS PEACHY?

Peachy Is SYNLAB's Sexual Health Panel. Seven Tiers. One Goal. You Know Your Status.

SYNLAB Nigeria is one of the few labs on the continent with ISO 15189 international accreditation. That means when your results say negative — they mean negative. When they flag something — they’re right.

Peachy is SYNLAB’s dedicated sexual health testing range. Seven different panels, from a quick 3-test screen to an 11-test full molecular PCR panel that leaves absolutely nothing to question.

You pick the level that fits your situation. A phlebotomist comes to your house if you want — or you walk into any of 30+ SYNLAB locations. Your results go straight to your phone via the PathProvider portal. Private. Secure. Nobody else’s business.

WHAT EACH TEST ACTUALLY DOES

Here's Exactly What Peachy Is Testing For — Straight Talk, No Jargon.

Before you pick a panel, it helps to understand what each test is actually looking for. Here’s the plain-English version.

HIV

What it’s doing:

Looking for the HIV virus — either the antibodies your body produces in response to it, or the viral antigen itself, or (in the Premium panel) the actual viral RNA.

Why you need to know:

HIV is still a major public health issue in Nigeria. It’s manageable — genuinely, people live full healthy lives with it. But only when it’s caught and treated. Undetected, it silently compromises your immune system over years.

Bottom line: Test. Know. Act. That’s all there is to it.

Syphilis

What it’s doing:

The RPR test screens for syphilis antibodies. The Treponema pallidum tests confirm whether the bacteria is present. The Premium panel uses DNA to detect it directly.

Why you need to know:

Syphilis is rising in Nigeria and across Africa. It’s entirely curable with antibiotics — but left untreated, it progresses through stages that can damage your heart, brain, and nervous system.

Bottom line: One of the easiest infections to treat. But only if you know you have it.

Chlamydia

What it’s doing:

IgM antibody = active infection. IgG antibody = past exposure. DNA test = direct molecular detection of the bacteria itself.

Why you need to know:

Over 70% of infected women and 50% of infected men have no symptoms. But it’s quietly causing damage: leading cause of fallopian tube scarring and infertility in Nigerian women.

Bottom line: Silent. Damaging. Completely treatable. Test for it.

HPV

What it’s doing:

The HPV Screen/Genotyping test detects whether HPV is present AND identifies which strain — some cause cervical cancer (high-risk), others cause genital warts (low-risk).

Why you need to know:

HPV is the leading cause of cervical cancer in Nigerian women. Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer in Nigerian women — and most cases are preventable with early detection.

Bottom line: This test could genuinely save a woman’s life.

Trichomonas vaginalis

What it’s doing:

Microscopy tests look for the parasite under a microscope. The Premium panel uses DNA detection for maximum accuracy.

Why you need to know:

The world’s most common non-viral STI — and one of the most overlooked. It’s easily treated with a single dose of antibiotics. It also significantly increases the risk of HIV transmission.

Bottom line: Simple to clear. Simpler to test for.

Hepatitis B & C

What it’s doing:

Checking whether the Hepatitis B or C virus is present and active in your blood.

Why you need to know:

Hepatitis B is so prevalent in Nigeria that 1 in 3 people have been exposed. Both viruses can sit silently in your liver for years — even decades — before causing cirrhosis, liver failure, or liver cancer. Caught early, both are manageable. Hepatitis C is actually curable with modern antivirals.

Bottom line: Your liver is doing a lot for you. Check on it.

Gonorrhoea

What it’s doing:

The STD Culture test grows and identifies gonorrhoea bacteria — and tests which antibiotics will work against it. The DNA test in higher panels detects gonorrhoea genetic material directly.

Why you need to know:

Gonorrhoea is Nigeria’s most commonly reported STI. It’s also developing antibiotic resistance. Untreated, it causes pelvic inflammatory disease, infertility, and increases HIV transmission risk by 3–5x.

Bottom line: Common, treatable, and increasingly antibiotic-resistant. Test early.

Herpes (HSV Type 1 & 2)

What it’s doing:

IgM = active or recent herpes infection. IgG = past exposure. DNA = molecular detection of the active virus.

Why you need to know:

HSV is more common than most people realise — and more manageable than the stigma suggests. Most people with herpes don’t know they have it. The IgG test is particularly valuable — it shows past exposure even without obvious outbreaks.

Bottom line: Silent. Knowing beats not knowing. Always.

Mycoplasma genitalium

What it’s doing:

Direct DNA detection of Mycoplasma genitalium bacteria.

Why you need to know:

An ’emerging STI’ that standard panels have historically missed. Only molecular PCR testing catches it. It causes urethritis in men and pelvic inflammatory disease in women.

Bottom line: Most labs won’t even test for this. The Premium panel does.

THIS IS FOR YOU IF...

You Don't Have to Be 'At Risk' to Get Tested.

Anyone who is sexually active can benefit from regular testing. Here’s who should be booking a Peachy panel right now:

You're in a new relationship

Before you remove protection, know where both of you stand. It’s not accusatory — it’s responsible.

You're in a long-term relationship

Stability doesn’t mean immunity. An annual sexual health screen is just good healthcare.

You're planning to get pregnant

Some infections can affect pregnancy, your baby, and your fertility. Test before you try.

You haven't tested in over 12 months

If you’re sexually active and it’s been a year, you’re due. No drama. Just the maths.

Something feels off

A symptom. A scare. An exposure you’re not sure about. Don’t wait. Test.

You believe in knowing your numbers

Blood pressure. Cholesterol. Blood sugar. Your sexual health panel is just another number worth knowing.

THE DIFFERENCE

Two Versions of You. Same Person. Different Information.

BEFORE Testing

AFTER Testing

The difference between these two versions of you is one test and a few days. That’s genuinely it.

The Questions You Were Going to Ask Anyway.

Do I need to see a doctor to book?

No. You book directly on synlab.com.ng. No referral, no prescription, no hospital appointment needed. You can walk in or book home collection at your convenience.

How private is this actually?

Completely private. Your results are in your PathProvider account and only you can access them. SYNLAB is a private laboratory. Your health information is not shared with employers, government agencies, family members, or anyone else.

I've never tested before. Where do I start?

Peachy or Peachy Plum is the right starting point. Peachy gives you the essential five-test screen. Peachy Plum steps it up to serology-level testing with bacterial STI culture.

I have symptoms. Which panel should I book?

If you have symptoms — any discharge, discomfort, burning, sores, or anything unusual — book Peachy Plum at minimum. The Culture, ID & Sens STD test identifies bacteria and tells the doctor which antibiotic will actually work.

How long do results take?

Rapid Stat tests (On-The-Go, Peachy): results within hours. Serology panels (Plum to Plum Max): 24–72 hours. PCR/Molecular (Premium): 3–5 business days.

Can the phlebotomist come to my office or hotel?

Yes. SYNLAB home collection covers any address you provide — home, office, hotel room. You book the time, they come to you.

Are these tests for men and women?

All Peachy panels are designed for both men and women. The only difference is that HPV genotyping in the Premium panel has particular clinical significance for women in terms of cervical cancer risk monitoring.

YOUR MOVE

You've Read This Far. You Already Know You Should Test. So Let's Go.

Stop putting it off. Book the panel that makes sense for your situation. Get it done at home or at a SYNLAB location near you. Know your status. Move forward.
